Stolen Breath

Catherine "Cathy" Daniels is diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer and given only three months to live. Yet her family refuses to believe her—her cruel mother-in-law, Margaret Shaw, verbally abuses her, her cheating husband, Lucas Shaw, violently turns on her when she catches him in the act, and her cold-hearted son, Liam Shaw, watches indifferently as she suffers. Cathy endures it all, staying only to ensure her young daughter, Natalie Shaw, has a home. When Margaret callously declares Natalie a burden and tries to give her away, Cathy finally snaps and demands a divorce. Margaret accuses her of scheming to steal the family’s拆迁款 (demolition compensation) and run off with a lover. In the ensuing argument, Cathy collapses and is hospitalized. When her diagnosis is confirmed, Margaret heartlessly kicks her out. Then, Cathy discovers an old insurance policy with a substantial payout. Determined to leave everything to Natalie, she keeps it secret—but the Shaws eventually find out. Luring her back under the pretense of Liam’s birthday, they attempt to drug her and force her fingerprint onto a forged contract. Cathy outsmarts them, but the confrontation turns violent—until her longtime friend, Daniel Carter, arrives with the police. Lucas is arrested for assault, but Margaret, desperate to the end, manipulates Liam into trying to remove Cathy’s oxygen tube. At the last moment, Liam hesitates, and Daniel catches Margaret in the act, leading to her arrest. With her remaining strength, Cathy names Natalie and Daniel’s son, Chris, as the insurance beneficiaries, begging Daniel to protect her daughter. He agrees. On a quiet, sunlit afternoon, Cathy passes away, her final words of love and warning whispered to Natalie.
